We removed a concrete walk that had divided the coastal pond; this boardwalk now bridges over the wetland, allowing us to restore the health of the pond and still connect the house to the beach house and deepwater dock.

This grand old lady on was rescued by my clients from a long inglorious decline. We were asked to restore the best of the house, remove the detritus, add new light filled porches and open the interiors to light and the broad views of the outer harbor. Saved from ruin, the house is now a welcoming home to my clients, their children and many grandchildren.
This project called for extensive environmental design and consultation with environmental experts and town boards. Partnering with Oak Bluff’s conservation commission, we took a previously divided wetland filled with invasive species, restored native plants and habitat and removed the concrete walk that had divided it. In place of the walk we installed an elevated boardwalk on pilings, connecting the house to the boathouse on the beach. No small part of the process was gaining approval for and the construction of a new deep-water dock.
